Today’s Google Doodle celebrates the summer solstice, the longest day of the year and officially the start of summer. Japanese artist Takashi Murakami was a perfect choice for the job – his work is colourful, bright and inspired by modern pop culture. You might know him best from the Louis Vuitton print he designed. He blurs the line between fine art and pop, exploring Japanese otaku culture and commenting on the current state of Japanese culture. He’s exhibited all over the world, not least in Versailles in Paris where he installed several large scale sculptures to emphasise the fantasy, Neverland nature of the palace. Enjoy your summer!
